The minimum education requirement is a baccalaureate degree or a post graduate degree in physiotherapy.It is an essential part of the health and community/welfare service delivery system.They work within multidisciplinary programmes to prevent, gain, maintain or restore optimal function and quality of life in individuals with loss and disorders of movement

Eligibility for Admission

Undergraduate degree from a recognized University with a minimum of 50% marks in any of the paramedical science courses from a recognized university or its equivalent: B.Sc. Cardiovascular Technology (BCVT), B.Sc Dialysis Technology, B.Sc Medical Microbiology, B.Sc MLT, B.Sc Nursing, B.Sc Zoology, B.Sc Medical Biochemistry, B.Sc Optometry, B.Sc. Perfusion Technology ,Bachelor of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology (BASLP) , Bachelor of occupational technology(BOT) ,BMRT(Bachelor of Medical Radiologic Technology) ,BPT

WHO defines health as a state of complete Physical, mental & social wellbeing and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Physiotherapist are health care professionals with a significant role in health promotion and treatment of injury and diseases. They work with an in-depth knowledge of human body with specialized hands-on clinical skills to access, diagnose and treat symptoms of illness, injury or disability.

U.G course are conducted at both centres with a total of 80 seats of which 50% seats are CEE allotted ( Govt.) and 50% seats allotted from the SME rank List. P.G course is conducted at Gandhinagar center with 15 seats of which MusculoSkeletal & Sports(9), Cardiorespiratory(3) and Neurology(3) specialities are all allotted from SME rank list.

The School of Medical Education, a self financing college, previously run directly by Mahatma Gandhi University till 2016, came into existence in 1993 with an aim of providing trained human resources in the area of allied medical and health sciences. Now this institution is under the control of Centre for Professional and Advanced Studies (CPAS), a Society established by Government of Kerala.

This is the pioneer self financing institution in the state of Kerala offering a variety of allied medical and health science courses. This is the only institution, spread across four districts in Kerala, conducting more than ten paramedical and allied health science courses under a single organisation. The Under Graduate and Postgraduate academic programmes of the school are so designed as to prepare skilled professionals of high calibre. Academic training and practice are imparted in collaboration with the Government Medical Colleges and reputed public and private sector establishments across India.

Physiotherapists are guided by a strong code of ethical principles, which shapes their approach to healthcare. Their primary focus is on promoting the health and well-being of both individuals and the general public by emphasizing the significance of physical activity and exercise. In addition to this, they are dedicated to preventing impairments, activity limitations, participatory restrictions, and disabilities in individuals who are at risk of altered movement behaviors. These risks may arise from health or medically related factors, socio-economic stressors, environmental influences, and lifestyle choices. Through their expertise, physiotherapists aim to enhance quality of life and mitigate the impact of these challenges on individuals' daily functioning.
